PBA Company Story

Martin Marquis, owner :

Passionate tinkerer.

The story of began in 2012, when Martin Marquis, inspired by his son, decided to reinvent the pear ball. After seeing his son cry because he couldn’t play with other children, Martin designed a pear-shaped ball that was easy to install at home. Using his ingenuity, he developed a mechanism to secure the ball between door frames. After 17 prototypes, he perfected the product we know today. The PBA Pear Ball has become a beloved staple, providing children with endless hours of fun and development benefits.

Martin, a father of four and a transportation and logistics coordinator, dedicated his evenings and weekends to his project. With limited resources, he began developing his pear-ball game using a workbench from Canadian Tire. Inspired by Steve Jobs, who started Apple in a garage, Martin dreamed of having a similar space of his own.

Despite working 60 hours a week as a truck driver, Martin persevered. He advises entrepreneurs to sell online to avoid the complications of product development in China, and recognizes the importance of having a strong wife by his side to overcome challenges.

His first order of 500 pear balls was of poor quality, which put him in financial difficulty. Despite this, he persevered, even after losing suppliers and facing the COVID-19 pandemic. Martin takes great pride in the product he has developed, and finds joy in bringing happiness to others with his pear-ball game.

Martin has transformed the pear ball game to make it easier to set up and more accessible to children of all ages and sizes, thanks to its ingenious mechanism. His story is a fine example of resilience and determination in the face of entrepreneurial challenges. He showed that, despite the obstacles, perseverance and innovation can lead to success.
