History of the pear ball

The history of the pear ball:

Who can claim to have invented the pear ball game, because this game has been around for ages.

My father told me that in 1957 he played this game at a small school in Rivière des Vases, near the small village of Cacouna, at the Bas St-Laurent.

It may be an First Nation invention, as the village has a native name which means porcupine. The game was often played alone and with one hand hitting the ball while the other is pressed on the bar.

Fortunately, the game and technique improved over time.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN VERDUN

How did I get the idea for the Indoor Pear Ball game?

In 2012, I was sitting on a bench at a Verdun playground, the one near to the Montreal Canadiens’ outdoor rink, courtesy of $ 1,000,000.

My 5 year old son comes to see me crying. Why are you crying, my poor boy? I asked him.

Girls don’t want me to play pear ball with them because I’m too small.

Indeed, there were 2 girls who had hung a pear ball around a bar on the play module and it was a bit high for my son.

It grabbed my heart and I said to him: “Listen daddy will make you one for the house and never again will you cry because of that ok!”

I am a handyman by nature, but that night I didn’t want to fall asleep too quickly and I stayed up thinking about how I was going to do it.

At first, I thought about hanging it in the corner of the fence outside, but in vain. Nothing simple came to mind.

The 2 girls in Verdun only had a belt as a ferrule to spin the ball so it was easy.

But yes! The adjustable exercise bars attach to the inside of the door frame, making it easy to hang a ball and a belt, as seen in Verdun.

Why limit yourself to the belt which is regularly off-center? When you can simply weld a ball bearing, like in schoolyards!

After a successful first attempt for my boy, I decided to take it a step further.

At that time, I was starting a project with more or less than 17 different prototypes. Now, I was testing several models of different “brackets”, to arrive at the product presented today.
